As my birthday is approaching (besty my birthday preparations start beginning of year)l just want to reflect on phrases and quotes that l live by and have been important to me for the past 3 decades. (Yes Sophie m turning 30 for the 5th time nawe nje uyazibonela)
When people show you who they are believe them.-l never understood this quote until someone who owed me money reluctantly told me that he does not pay credits on time, in essence he told me the kind of person he was. From that time l pay attention to what people say. Many at times people usually give away their traits, we just do not pay enough attention. In relationships romantic or otherwise we ignore what we call red flags especially in the beginning because we think they will change or you can change them.
Positive Mind, Positive Vibes, Positive life-Over the last couple of months l have really learnt the power of thinking positive things in order to attract positive things in my life. It has not only brought peace in the storm but it also has taught me to mind my own business.Have you ever noticed how when you complain so much oh the devil gives you more to complain about until you find yourself in this pit of bitterness.Your mind is very powerful use it wisely..(etsho eziphuzela icoffee lakhe eloba incwadi)
God does not give you more than you can handle-I believe that sometimes troubles and problems are there to shape us and move us out of our comfort zone. Many at times when God tests you he has already given you the tools to conquer or overcome at your disposal. The problem is many of us do not fully trust God,we say we do but do we really? That lack of trust makes us think we going to fail and so we find it easy to complain than to learn from lessons. One author said being a christian is like being a student writing exams every now and then so always put on the whole armour of God and be ready for any test (you making me preach).
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me-This has been my pillar of strength knowing that God has my back at all times, that even when l am week he give me strength to carry on.Now the strength is not to get back at that neighbour who is just a pain for no reason (trust me God sees and knows that they will get reward of their foolishness)The strength is to do kingdom work after all we were made by him for him.
All human beings want is to love and be loved-This made me realise we all want the same things we just but go about it the wrong way or just differently sometimes. We just want to be accepted by each other. That has taught me to have sympathy and empathy on human beings. We all have one goal ❤️
Live in the moment-l have learnt to slow down and really smell the roses💐. As a first born l am always concerned if everyone is ok and l neglect myself and when good things happen to me l never really slow down and enjoy the moment. My first borns and any care givers take care of yourself.Men (yes you)do take time to rest and enjoy the money you work hard for.
Trust God even when it makes no sense-This one l started understanding recently and l must say it’s hard especially for people like me who always plan ahead always want to be in control, But God has a way of humbling you that is when you realise his ways are not my ways.
Trust your gut/instincts-this is something l have proven over time..a lot of times when something is not right your gut sounds off alarm signs. It takes a lot to follow it because as human beings we are used to the norm our routine that it takes a lot to defy the boundaries.10/10 your gut will be right if only we follow it.
See the good in all situations-no matter how bad a situation is try and see the good in it.See the silver lining. My salary is small but at least l can put food on table,my boss is horrible but at least you do not stay under one roof…l could go on but l think picture is clear.
See the best in human beings be kind-people are trying their best to be the best version of themselves. Some are battling traumas and scars we have no idea off. Years ago l had a customer who was always bubbly and in joyous mood .l said s joke as was the norm and he snapped (calm me was in building) so l asked him what was wrong as that was not his normal behaviour,he then explained he was going through some financial problems. Sometimes a little kindness goes a long way.
Trust the lord with all your heart lean not on your own understanding-this is a new one picked up during covid 19and it was my Rev Sawasawa s favourite verse. Sometimes do not try to make sense of things just trust that GOD has your back no matter what your senses are telling you.
I might have written this years ago but the lessons remain valuable even today.
